The 2014 International Lingerie Show (ILS) which was held September 15 – 17 was another exciting departure from the norm. Although attendance was slightly down this year, sales already surpassed last year’s in comparison. According to Erin Sue, Marketing and Communications Manager for Coquette International, founded in 1979 and the largest manufacturer and wholesaler of lingerie in Canada, this was due to better coordination between event staff, hotel personnel and the vendors. Sue also stated, “…the economy in Las Vegas seemed to be more stabilized, which really excites us about next April.”
The Lingerie Show is held twice a year in April and September, and is the largest of its kind in the United States. Featuring everything from traditional lingerie, hosiery and undergarments, to the lavish and extreme, such as fetish attire and whimsical Pampered Pooch negligee, there is certain to be something for everybody at this trade show.
Personally, one of my favorite trade shows, the ILS vendors, hotel and event staff seem to feed off each others’ energy. The event reflects this symbiotic relationship, the highlight being the runway show which draws a large crowd. It also features a complimentary buffet for attendees, awards ceremony and lots and lots of lingerie.
Mark Reynold’s, owner of Daisy Corsets of Maryland Heights, Missouri and his staff were very accommodating during our interview by lending one of his models for the featured video segment. When asked why he’s attended the event for the last four years, he said, “…this is the only place in the world where we can target our audience. Not L.A., not N.Y., but right here in Las Vegas. Don’t get me wrong, we sell a lot of merchandise online and in our outlets. This is where we meet the retailers.”
ILS will return to the Rio Hotel and Casino in Fabulous Las Vegas from March 30-April 1, 2015. We’ll see you there.
